Occurrence of myelodysplastic syndrome during paclitaxel- and carboplatin-based chemotherapy for recurrent ovarian cancer: Case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Platinum and taxane have significant activity as key drugs in current treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. While myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute leukemia are well-known secondary disease after administration of chemotherapy, particularly with alkylating agents, they have only rarely been reported in the context of ovarian cancer treatment. In this case report a 59-year-old Japanese developed a MSD during ongoing second induction chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel for recurrent ovarian cancer. Her second induction began 9 months after completion of her first course of chemotherapy. Cytogenetic analyses showed typical chromosomal aberration. Although the finding of pancytopenia is also seen during chemotherapy without MSD/acute leukemia, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy should be considered to confirm the clinical suspicion of the lifethreatening disease when encountered persistent pancytopenia following carboplatinand paclitaxel-based chemotherapy in an ovarian cancer patient.

متن کاملPaclitaxel Induced MDS and AML: A Case Report and Literature Review
Therapy related acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) have been classically linked to alkylating agents and topoisomerase inhibitors. They constitute about 1% of all AMLs. There is less evidence on association of taxanes (paclitaxel and docetaxel) with these myeloid neoplasms. We present a case of paclitaxel therapy related acute myelogenous leukemia after treatme...
متن کاملEndometrioid ovarian carcinoma benefits from aromatase inhibitors: case report and literature review.
UNLABELLED Aromatase inhibitors have not been adequately assessed in treatment of ovarian cancer. The aromatase inhibitor letrozole (2.5 mg daily) was administered in 2 cases of advanced endometrioid ovarian cancer with positive estrogen receptor. CASE 1: A 52-year-old woman with a grade 2-3, stage iiic endometrioid ovarian cancer was optimally debulked and received 6 cycles of intravenous pacl...
متن کاملNeutropenic enterocolitis in an advanced epithelial ovarian cancer patient treated with paclitaxel/platinum-based chemotherapy: a case report and review of the literature.
BACKGROUND Literature data show that neutropenic enterocolitis is a rare but severe complication that can occur in cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and especially with taxanes. CASE REPORT A 60-year-old woman with stage Illc epithelial ovarian cancer developed neutropenic fever, abdominal pain, severe diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and oral mucositis one week after the first postoperati...
متن کاملCase report: A Metastatic Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary
Background: Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is a rare type of ovarian epithelial cancer. This type of ovarian cancer accounts for only 1% of superficial epithelial carcinomas. Ovarian cancer is a major clinical challenge in obstetrics and gynecology. The reason of this is the lack of specific symptoms for ovarian cancer before the recurrence and progression of the tumor, so many cases are not...
